Since the age of 4, Yamini has been a portrait artist starting with crayons, pencils and colored pencils as her medium. In 3rd grade, her rendition of President Eisenhower was such that her teacher mailed it to him with a letter of commendation. She was rewarded with a letter of thanks from the president.

She graduated from UCLA in fine arts in 1964 and pursued a career in fashion design which led her to designing for a major uniform company for 5 years. During that time she met a noted TV costume designer who required her services for a uniform project he was commissioned to do for the Hilton Hotels. Upon completion of this assignment and with his encouragement she took time off from work and pursued work as a costumer in the movie industry. She subsequently spent many years working in the industry and even became head of wardrobe for CBS during the mid-70's. A sudden interest in spiritual matters interrupted her career however and it wasn't until the mid-80's that she resumed her life as an artist. She explored many avenues, including ceramics, watercolor and mixed media portraiture and finally photography. Her interest in photography grew when she undertook instruction from such noted photographers as Bob Hansen, Bill Agee and Joan Roselli. Her artistic photographic works went on display in many southland galleries including the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts in 1996 and 1997.

In 1997 she established herself as a portrait photographer in Laguna Beach taking on many clients from personal referrals. Since then her work has blossomed into a viable business and her clientel includes over 200 families. She specializes in children in black and white photography and particularly enjoys dressing them up in vintage clothing and placing them in a variety of settings either in her studio or in the beautiful wilderness and beaches of Laguna. Having her studio just 2 blocks from one of the most beautiful beaches in the world has proven to be a tremendous asset. Her rapport with children and her ability to capture their unique and natural beauty has given Yamini an outstanding reputation as one of the formost child photographers in the area.
